Mind and Body
Rec Sports provides a wide variety of classes to meet the needs of VCU's diverse population, therefore Cary Street Gym group exercise studios are often divided so two classes can take place at the same time. Class sizes are limited due to safety and liability concerns. Patrons without wristbands will not be admitted to the class.
(This schedule includes both Cary St. Gym and MCV Campus Rec & Aquatic Center classes, check location in the details of the class you are interested in)
Pilates is a mind-body form of exercise designed to create muscular balance, core stability and strength, and flexibility and fluidity of motion. The class will incorporate working on the mat and on a resistance ball. It teaches body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement. Pilates also improves flexibility, agility and economy of motion.
Intro To Taiji/ Tai Chi
Depending on students’ interests and experience, this course offers (1) further instruction in Wu Style empty-hand forms, (2) practice in “push-hands” sparring for taiji practitioners in general, and/or (3) tournament-competition level training in forms and push-hands.
Qi Gong/Chi-Gong (Chinese Yoga)
Qi Gong uses a series of movements designed to activate pressure points in the body. These movements increase circulation, massage internal organs, and increase the movement of internal energy in order to help provide a more harmonious system.
Everyone from high–caliber athletes to senior citizens is discovering the mental and physical benefits that yoga can produce. Our instructors are trained in several different styles that will stretch and activate muscles that you didn't even know existed.
An energizing physical class designed to strengthen and tone the body and relax the mind. This class will combine dynamic movements and static exercises while keeping in mind proper alignment and form as one movement flows into the other. The class will be a blend of yoga poses to strengthen the core, tone the arms, and build power in the legs. All levels welcome.
Raw Yoga Rhythm I
A Prana Flow style class which means that it is more fluid and emphasizes moving in rhythm not just with the breath and the class but with the music as well. It is suitable for both beginners and more advanced practitioners.
