Health/Fitness Assessment
The Health/Fitness Assessment is required for all Personal Fitness Training clients. The assessment is completed by the PFT at a VCU Recreational Sports facility. It utilizes a safe, effective and reliable method of determining your current fitness level. The assessment will aid the Personal Fitness Trainer in developing a program for you. The Health/Fitness Assessment protocol lasts approximately one hour and includes:
| Strength and Endurance | Cardiovascular Assessment | Body Composition and Circumference |
| Abdominal muscle (1-minute sit-up test) |
Resting heart rate (Blood pressure) |
Girth/circumference (Waist/hip ratio) |
| Grip dynamometer (grip strength test) |
Cardiovasculart test | Body composition test (% body fat, skin-fold caliper test) |
| Upper body strength (endurance, push up test) |
Predicted maximum heart rate |
Next, your Personal Fitness Trainer will complete the Fitness Interpretation/Consultation/Orientation with you. The Personal Fitness Trainer will aid you in developing a fundamental understanding of general fitness concepts while addressing your questions and concerns about exercise. Topics include, but are not limited to:
| Goals, Objectives and Barriers to Exercise | Lifestyles and Needs Evaluation |
| Body image | ACSM Guidelines for Health and Fitness |
| Guidelines for Health and Fitness | Behavioral Modification/Change |
| Nutrition |
Individual Exercise Programs
After reviewing the results from your Health/Fitness Assessment, and discussing your lifestyle and personal fitness needs, goal and objectives, your Personal Fitness Trainer will design, implement and monitor your Personal Fitness Training program. He or she can address one or more of the following aspects of your individualized exercise program:
| Health/Fitness Assessment and refinement of current program design | New program design and implementation |
