How to Play

First, sign up! Pick up an entry form and information sheet from the Intramural Office at the Siegel Center or MCV Campus Recreation and Aquatic Center.

Then, get your players together and put them on your team roster. You'll already know the rules and how many players you'll need from the information sheet.

Next, turn in your roster to the service desk and pay the entry fee. Often, your class treasury or student organization will pick up the tab. Ask! Now, you're set! And, most likely, you are the captain! This means you must attend (or ask a team member to attend) the captains' meeting to find out when your games are and other important information. Captains' meetings may vary, so please refer to the Information Sheet for that activity.

Who's on Your Team?

Here's the key:

  • On the MCV Campus, your team members must be members of your class. If there is not enough interest, then find a team within your school. If you're still having trouble, then combine similar classes (such as PT and OT) or staff personnel. However, there are many Individual and Dual sports to be played - with no class restrictions.
  • On the Monroe Park Campus, you may form teams with friends or sign up on an interest list to be placed on a team.

Rescheduling

Study your schedule immediately to see if you have conflicts. If so, we will try to reschedule. This will be done only by agreement of both teams and the Intramural Sports staff. Rescheduling must be made at least one (1) school day in advance of the originally scheduled game time.

Forfeits

We make it a point to start all the games on time, so remember: game time is forfeit time. The program supervisor has the "Official Watch." If you forfeit, you will be required to pay a re-entry fee (teams $5 and individuals/duals $2) before participating again. The re-entry fee is non-refundable. When a team/individual forfeits a second time, the team/individual is dropped from further participation.

Avoidance Dates

These avoidance dates/days are important! We don't want to schedule your team the night before your huge exam. Avoidance dates/days are times when you cannot play. Write them on your entry form. Remember to include the night before your exam rather than the day of your exam.

Conduct Ratings

A conduct rating system has been implemented in an effort to ensure that the IM games are positive experiences for everyone involved. We want all participants in our leisure oriented programs to enjoy a healthy spirit of competition.

The rating system is a grade scale — from 1 to 10 — to describe the conduct during competition of the teammates in each game. Two important things to remember:

  1. Your team must maintain a "7.0" average throughout the regular season to be eligible for the play-offs.
  2. Any team receiving a "6.9" or below during the play-offs will be disqualified from the play-offs.
