If you're a VCU student, you already belong!
Recreational Sports offers all of these great benefits to its members:
- Access to all facilities managed by Recreational Sports during all published hours of informal recreation
- Free daily-use locker service
- Free racquetball and squash court usage
- Free recreational swimming during published informal swimming hours
- Free sports equipment checkout service
- Access to the Family Recreation Program and special events
- Access to extra programs at published member rates
- Ability to sponsor guests on a daily basis by paying the $5 guest fee
- Alumni with memberships also have access to equipment rental at the Outing Rental Center and may participate in Outdoor Adventure Programs
Eligibility
Students
Students currently registered at VCU are eligible for full access to facilities and programs. This includes students from both the MCV and Monroe Park campuses, full-time, part-time, graduate, undergraduate and special students. Non-fee paying currently enrolled students may join at the faculty/staff rate and pay by the semester.
Students who are not registered in summer sessions (yet were enrolled in the previous spring semester) retain their membership until the beginning of the fall semester. Non-fee paying summer students may purchase a membership for $36.
Faculty, Administrators and Staff
Currently employed faculty, administrators and staff of VCU are eligible to purchase a Recreational Sports membership for access to facilities and programs. This includes full-time, part-time, house staff, adjunct, emeritus, visitin and retired faculty, classified and hourly staff, employees of MCV Physicians and MCV Hospitals, and Virginia Biotechnology Research Park employees. Selected full-time contract employees are eligible for membership.
Alumni
Graduates of Virginia Commonwealth University, both Monroe Park and MCV campuses, are eligible to purchase a limited number of Recreational Sports memberships.
Plus One Membership
Recreational Sports members can sponsor one other individual of their choice over the age of 18 as a Plus One member for an additional fee, listed in the chart below. The sponsoring member can pay for both their membership and the Plus One membership via check at the time of registration, or choose payroll deduction. In addition, the Plus One member will be required to purchase a Recreational Sports Membership Card for $10 from the VCU Card Office. For full details, contact Doris Bryant at (804) 828-6397.
Fees
All memberships can be processed the same day by going to any of the Recreational Sports facilities. All persons except VCU students will need to complete a new membership contract. Student summer memberships are only available to students who were enrolled in the previous spring semester.
Annual memberships are valid from September 1 to August 31. Memberships are prorated on the first day of each month.
Semester rates are available for employees and members who are not eligible for payroll deduction. For more information, download our printable membership rates chart.

Locker rental
For locker rental please go to the facility of choice. A Recreational Sports Member or Currently enrolled student can rent two lockers in two different facilities. Please be prepared to pay and bring a personal lock or you can purchase one from us for $4.25 to be placed on the locker the day you rent it.
