The Outdoor Adventure Program serves VCU students, faculty, staff, alumni and guests by providing low-cost outdoor activity-based trips, including whitewater rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, canoeing, caving, hiking, backpacking and skiing.
Trip participants vary by activity and location. Most trips are a mix of undergraduate and graduate students with some staff and faculty. Most trips are designed to introduce beginners to an activity. Most require participants to be in good physical condition. Individuals interested in trips can sign up at the Outing Rental Center.
Trip leaders are students who have completed our Outdoor Adventure Leadership Program and acquired the necessary experience to guide the trips they have been assigned.
Interested in becoming an outdoor adventure trip guide or leader? Sign up for the Adventure Skills Practicum offered in the Spring, a training program that includes workshops and wilderness experiences. In addition to the activities, training includes first aid, wilderness medicine, outdoor leadership, trip planning, group facilitation, hazard assessment, team building, ethics and more. Space is limited, so sign up early. Call (804) 828-6004 for details.
